Book Recommendations

I have been meaning to start this page for so very long… I love books so much and have them sorted throughout the house: bedroom and living room for books I’m reading (routinely 5 to 15 books at a time), studio for books I’ve already read, upstairs living room for books I have yet to read. I dream of an entire wall lined with books. I love to read before I’ve gotten out of bed and always read before I go to sleep (once I’m in bed). I love to sneak in little moments of reading so I always have a book in my car and give myself more than enough time to get to appointments. I have a toddler so I read to him both books for toddlers and books for older ones: Roald Dahl books, the Narnia series, The Phantom Tollbooth, you name it. This book list will remain ever growing and I always welcome suggestions!

I’m a sucker for dystopia novels so my 3 favorites are: We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood & Daughters of the North by Sarah Hall

Dune by Frank Herbert

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery and the ensuing series

Still Life With Woodpecker & Tibetan Peach Pie by Tom Robbins

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster (I just read this to my son and it was so great, especially for people who enjoy a good play on words. It’s obviously written for kids but that didn’t lessen my enjoyment of it in the slightest.)

All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness

Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

The Golden Ass by Robert Graves

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer & The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin by Mark Twain

Fahrenheit 451 & Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury

Sex Wars: A Novel of Gilded Age New York by Marge Piercy

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg

The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

The Hobbit by Tolkien

I recommend all books by Italo Calvino. His style changes with each one!

Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

Johnny got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo

The Short Bus: A Journey Beyond Normal by Jonathan Mooney

Stone Mattress: Nine Wicked Tales by Margaret Atwood

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
